GYC has a thriving dinghy section. Our sailing calendar includes races, cruises and training and we welcome new members who have never sailed before.

Over the last two years we have updated our fleet, choosing the 2000 as our preferred two-person racing boat, and the Laser as our preferred solo boat. Both boats cater for a wide range of skills, and have fairly similar handicaps – resulting in close racing.

We look to be an active part of the 2000 and UK Laser Class Associations, and our sailors often attend open events. Offering to crew with an experienced club helm is an ideal way of getting out on the water and beginning your sailing adventure!

On weekday evenings during the summer, or at the weekend throughout the year, we organise informal cruises to get out on the water just for fun. These cruises are a brilliant way to try sailing for the first time, sail with different crew or give another class of boat a whirl.

We are an accredited RYA Training Establishment, and run courses in Dinghy Level One and Two. We also offer specific training, such as Introduction to the 2000 or the Laser and Racing Skills, for sailors looking to build upon existing skills.

We have a Summer and a Winter Series for those sailors who enjoy racing, with a variety of race formats: ‘Round The Cans’ in front of our club, longer distance races round the peninsula to Greenwich, match racing against other clubs and even a 20km race from GYC east to the QE2 Bridge – ‘Her Majesty’s Cup’ – that marks the start of our Winter Series.

Our racing is competitive but very friendly, and ends in our beautiful club house at the bar having a chat over a drink or two, and cheering the results.
