Why not join Greenwich Yacht Club?
Proposed new
rates now available here
There are a great many advantages to being a member of Greenwich Yacht Club (GYC).
If you own a boat, or are interested in sailing or in the River Thames, its
history or its wild life, then you might seriously consider applying for
membership.
You don't have to own a boat to join GYC, or even know how to sail. Many of our
members come to us as complete beginners, and become inspired to go out and
learn about sailing either on cruisers or dinghies.
For those who prefer not to rely on the wind, we also have a rowing section and
an active motor cruising section.
Away from the river, we publish our own in-house magazine, Trident, three times
a year, and email newsletters in between. We have a club yahoo group for
discussion of club matters or anything nautical. There is also an active and
varied social calendar.
Importantly, in matters of boating, we are a self-help club; our members do all
the day-to-day maintenance work. Our clubhouse is one of the best in the
country, so why not come along and take a look?
How to Join
If you'd like to know more, come along on a club night (Tuesday night, from
2000hrs onwards) and say hello. To be considered for membership you need to
visit the club on four separate Tuesday evenings and be signed in by a committee
member. You can then be proposed for membership by two existing GYC members and
can complete an application form, which will be placed on the club notice board
for four weeks. At the end of the four weeks, you will have an informal
interview with the membership secretary and another committee member.
Initial membership is associate membership. After one year you can request full
membership from the comittee (usually via the Membership Secretary in writing)
whilst showing active membership in water activities and the self help ethos
upon which the club is run.
A complete breakdown of fees from the treasurer is now available here. |
