RYA Diesel engine course

This course is designed to teach you to be more self-sufficient. We teach the principles of diesel engines, the parts of the engine, common fault finding and rectification plus routine maintenance.

A good knowledge of diesel engines may one day save your life! Upon completion of the course you will be awarded an RYA Diesel Engine Course Certificate.

The course takes place in a workshop with different diesel engines to look at and work on.

This course is not designed to make you a marine engineer, it is an introduction to marine diesel engines to help prevent breakdown at sea and rectify defects which do not require a workshop.

A large proportion of Lifeboat "call outs" are for vessels with engine problems. Many of these are simple faults that can, with a little knowledge, be rectified without assistance.
