GYC invites London's dinghy sailors to race on October 2
We are very happy to confirm that the annual London Regatta, a series of races for sailing dinghies, will be hosted by Greenwich Yacht Club on Sunday 2 October.
Dinghy racing will take place on a series of courses marked out in the River Thames between the Thames Barrier and the Emirates Cable Car at the O2 Arena.
The Thames Barrier will operate its annual full closure test from 08.25 to 18.25 and during this time the Thames will be a non-tidal waterway with no through traffic. This is a unique day once a year for dinghy sailors without a 'tidal water' qualification to race on this stretch of river in a great festival atmosphere.
Over 50 entries are expected from our own members and from other clubs and sailing centres along the Thames and in other London locations. We invite applications to compete from London-based sailing centre and sailing club members in any class of dinghy (subject to final confirmation), please contact our Dinghy Captain Simon Powell
Racing will take place from around 11am to 2pm, subject to weather conditions the day. There will be an Awards Ceremony in the clubhouse once the results have been finalised and presentations will be made by the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Councillor Olu Babatola.
Spectators can watch from the Thames Path and Greenwich Yacht Club - the bar will be open from 12 noon with food available from 2pm. Parking spaces will be reserved for competitors so please don't come by car unless you're racing.
